Different Types of Hearing Aids

There are many different styles and types hearing aids. As every person is unique with their own needs, no one hearing aid or even hearing aid manufacture is right for everyone. Our clinicians will work with you to tailor a treatment plan to your individual needs to ensure you get the best outcomes. As we are an independent clinic with no preferred suppliers and not owned by a manufacture you can be sure you are getting unbiased patient centered advice.

Receiver in the ear (RITE)

These hearing aids are the most common, the hearing aid sits on top of the ear with a wire running to the speaker that sits in the ear canal. This style suits a range of hearing losses and is discrete.

Behind the ear (BTE)

These are a more traditional style of hearing aid where the hearing aid sits on top of the ear with a tube running down to either a dome or custom mould in the ear. This style suits a range of hearing losses, can be discrete and is very robust and easy to maintain.

Invisible in the ear

Lyric was designed to remain out of sight and out of mind. It is invisible in the ear canal and can be worn 24 hours per day, seven days a week for months at a time. You don’t take them in or out. There are no batteries to change, and no cleaning required.

In the ear (ITE)

These hearing aids sit completely in the ear, some are completely in the ear canal while some are also in the concha portion of the ear. This style of hearing aid leaves the top of the ear free, it is suitable for some types of hearing loss and it’s size will depend on your ear shape and size.

How Much do Hearing Aids Cost?

Hearing aids range in price depending on the features that the hearing aids have. High-end hearing aids have more sophisticated digital processors enabling them to help you more in complex listening situations.

Hearing aid technology is constantly evolving and improving. In recent years advances in hearing aid technology have seen the inclusion of Bluetooth streaming, phone app connectivity, rechargeable batteries and the use of AI to improve sound quality. All of these features are available in a range of price points and hearing aid styles.
