What we love about LYRIC
Remember how contact lenses provided a great alternative for people who didn’t want to wear glasses? LYRIC is a bit like that, but for hearing.
Conventional hearing aids are smaller and smarter than ever before. But there’s the fiddly process of putting them in and taking them out each day, alongside managing battery life and making sure your glasses or hat don’t dislodge them.
LYRIC is different. An audiologist places it deep inside your ear canal, where it stays 24/7 for months at a time.

Dr John Apps enjoys LYRIC’s hassle-free hearing
Blenheim local, John Apps is a retired emergency medicine doctor who spends his time teaching search and rescue skills, leading treks to Everest Base Camp and upskilling combat medics in Ukraine.
As you can imagine, John needed a hearing aid that could handle his lifestyle! He’d used conventional hearing aids for years, but had to remove and reinsert them each time he used his stethoscope, found charging the batteries difficult when travelling, and constantly snagged them on his sunnies, hats and surgical masks.
Then we told him about LYRIC. It’s been a game changer for John, working reliably on 41-degree days in northern Spain and in subzero temperatures in the Himalayas.

What is LYRIC and how does it work?
LYRIC is an extended-wear hearing device placed deep in the ear canal by a trained audiologist. Unlike conventional aids that process sound outside the ear, LYRIC uses your ear’s natural anatomy to collect and funnel sound, producing a more natural listening experience. It stays in place for months at a time, with no daily maintenance required.
How long does LYRIC stay in?
LYRIC is worn continuously for two to four months, then replaced at a short appointment (around 10 minutes). You wear it while sleeping, exercising, and going about your day. Your monthly subscription covers the cost of replacements.
Does LYRIC need charging?
No. LYRIC uses a long-life battery sealed inside the device that’s designed to last the full wear period. No charging, no swapping batteries.
Is LYRIC really invisible?
Yes. Because it’s positioned deep in the canal rather than at the ear’s entrance, it cannot be seen from the outside. There is no device behind the ear, no wire, and no visible component of any kind.
Can I try LYRIC before deciding?
Yes. Our LYRIC open day on 30 September is a great opportunity to find out if you’re a candidate, hear more about how it works, and explore a demo — with no obligation to proceed. A formal trial period is also available after a candidacy assessment.
Who is LYRIC suitable for?
Lyric may be an option for people whose hearing needs, ear health and ear canal shape are suitable for an extended-wear hearing aid. Your audiologist will confirm this during a dedicated assessment. The open day is a useful chance to ask questions and learn whether Lyric may be worth exploring.
Can I sleep, exercise, and shower while wearing LYRIC?
You can sleep and exercise in LYRIC without removing it. It is water-resistant, so showering is generally fine, but it should not be fully submerged in water, so it must be removed for swimming and diving. For most daily activities, LYRIC simply stays in.
Do I need to RSVP for the LYRIC open day?
No – you’re welcome to drop in any time between 1:00pm and 7:30pm. That said, registering your interest helps us plan the day and ensure you’re seen promptly.
