About Blackmore Audiology

Born in Blenheim, built from experience and proudly independent from the chains that put sales before people.

The Blackmore name has deep roots here.
So does our care.

We're not just based in Marlborough. We belong here.

When Sara Blackmore set out to open an audiology clinic, she wasn’t moving somewhere new – she was coming home, bringing two decades of clinical knowledge back to the community that raised her.

At Blackmore Audiology, we understand what hearing means in this part of the world: conversations over the back fence, the crackle of a marine radio out in the Sounds, a grandchild’s voice at the end of a long table. Our team lives these experiences alongside you – and that shapes everything about how we care for your hearing.

Marlborough's only independent audiology clinic

Sara spent years managing clinics within a nationwide chain – so she knows exactly what happens when a corporate head office drives the recommendations rather than the patient in the chair.

Sales targets. Preferred brands. Quotas.

That’s why she left.

Blackmore Audiology’s only agenda is your hearing. As Marlborough’s only independent audiology clinic, we work with all leading hearing aid manufacturers and only recommend what’s right for your hearing needs, budget and lifestyle.

Sara Blackmore

Audiologist & Founder

B.SLT(Hons), M.Aud(dis), MNZAS, CCC

Sara is Blenheim born and bred – the Blackmore name has been part of this region for generations. She left to study, earning a Bachelor of Speech-Language Therapy with Honours and a Master of Audiology with Distinction from the University of Canterbury, before returning home to build the audiology clinic her community deserved.

Sara’s dual foundation in speech-language therapy and audiology is rare, and it shapes her approach. She understands not just whether you’re hearing sound, but how the brain processes and interprets language.

In two decades of clinical practice, she has assessed and supported thousands of patients, trained new-graduate clinicians, and managed clinics for a nationwide chain – an experience that convinced her independent, community-rooted care is better for patients.

Sara holds specialist certification in Auditory Processing Disorders, has completed Essential Ear Microsuction Training, and is a member of the New Zealand Audiological Society.

Holly Morey

Audiometrist

Dip.Aud.

Originally from Wales, Holly discovered Marlborough and never looked back. She has proudly called this region home for over a decade.

Holly’s background in aged care, working alongside allied health professionals, gives her a particular gift with older patients and those managing complex health needs alongside their hearing. She understands the whole person, not just the audiogram.

Her Diploma in Audiometry is complemented by something you can’t study for: the patience and empathy to put even the most anxious patient at ease. Outside the clinic, Holly loves cooking and baking with local Marlborough produce.

Sam Jones

Sam Jones

Audiometrist

Dip.Aud.

Sixteen years in the New Zealand Defence Force teach you a particular way of working: methodical, precise, thorough, and calm under pressure. Sam brings all of that to audiology. His NZDF career centred on planning and executing complex projects, and he now applies that same disciplined, detailed attention to every hearing assessment and ear care procedure.

Sam holds a Diploma in Audiometry, NZIM Certificate in Management, and National Certificate in Business First Line Management, and is microsuction certified. He is also Sara’s husband, which means Blackmore Audiology name carries something the nationwide chains will never be able to manufacture: genuine family investment in this community and its people.

When he’s not in the clinic, Sam is out hunting or fishing in the Marlborough Sounds, the same waters and hills many of our patients know well. If you’re wondering whether your hearing protection is up to scratch for a day in the field or a weekend on the water, Sam is exactly the person to ask.

Now serving Picton

We know not everyone lives around the corner from Francis Street. That’s why we’ve opened a new satellite clinic in Picton, bringing the same independent, unhurried care to the top of the Sounds.
